Lash Lift vs Lash Extensions — Which One Is Right for You?
It's one of the most common questions we hear at Casa Artistry: should I get a lash lift or lash extensions? Both enhance your natural lashes and create a more wide-eyed, polished look. But they work in completely different ways, suit different lifestyles, and come with very different maintenance. Here's an honest comparison.
What Is a Lash Lift?
A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls and lifts your natural lashes from the root. At Casa Artistry, we use the Korean lash lift technique, which uses a conditioning formula to lift and fan your lashes for a defined, open-eyed look. There are no added lashes — the result is entirely your own, just lifted and curled. Results last roughly six to eight weeks.
What Are Lash Extensions?
Lash extensions are individual synthetic, silk, or mink fibres applied one by one (or in small fans) to your natural lashes with a semi-permanent adhesive. They add length, curl, thickness, and drama your natural lashes can't achieve alone — from natural Classic sets to full Russian Volume. Extensions last roughly two to three weeks before needing an infill.
The Key Differences
Natural lashes vs added length. A lift works with what you have — stunning on naturally long/full lashes, still an improvement on short/sparse ones but without dramatic length. Extensions can transform almost any natural lash, even very short or thin.
Maintenance (often the deciding factor). A lash lift needs almost no upkeep — one appointment every 6–8 weeks, and in between you can swim, sweat and wash your face freely. Many clients add a lash tint for extra definition. Extensions need infills every 2–3 weeks, plus mindful aftercare (avoid oil-based products, don't rub your eyes, sleep carefully, brush daily).
Cost over time. A single lash lift is a one-off investment lasting up to eight weeks; extensions need ongoing infills, so the yearly cost is higher. Neither is "better" — it depends on what you want to invest.
The look and feel. A lift looks and feels natural — most people just notice your eyes look incredible. Extensions are more noticeable (in the best way) and feel slightly different, especially at first, though most clients adapt quickly.
Lash health. Both are safe when applied correctly and maintained. A lift has less ongoing impact (no weight or adhesive to maintain), while extensions require diligent aftercare — keeping infills on schedule, avoiding oils, and never pulling or rubbing.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose a lash lift if: you want low maintenance and a natural result; you have reasonably long natural lashes; you swim or exercise regularly; you're new to lash treatments; or you want beautiful lashes without ongoing commitment.
Choose lash extensions if: you want maximum drama, length and volume; you love lashes that need no mascara; you're comfortable with regular infills; you're happy to adjust your skincare/sleep routine slightly; or you want a fully customised look.
Still unsure? Some clients start with a lift, then move to extensions later; others take a break from extensions to let their lashes rest. There's no wrong answer.
